Compassionate Care

An oldie but a goodie:

This 100 Days in Appalachia article highlights the important work of Project CARA, a Western North Carolina perinatal substance use treatment program providing comprehensive, compassionate care to pregnant and parenting people experiencing substance use disorders.

I’m honored to (still!) be part of this work as a behavioral health clinician with Project CARA. As a therapist, I support patients as they navigate substance use, mental health, trauma, pregnancy, and the transition into parenthood.

Pregnancy can be a powerful opportunity for change, but fear and stigma can make seeking help difficult. At Project CARA we take a different approach—meeting people with respect, reducing barriers to care, and recognizing the whole person behind the diagnosis.

People deserve support, not judgment, when they are ready to make a change.
